HUBBELL FARM HISTORY: 1940–2023
1st generation farmers, Ivan & Evelyn Hubbell, purchased their first cherry farm, (Cherry Acres) located on US 31 in Williamsburg, MI in the 1940's. Ivan and Evelyn had a farm market also on US 31 and baked and sold delicious homemade cherry pies, fresh cherries, juices and they packed fresh apples & took them to the Detroit Market. Their son, and 2nd generation farmers Keith Hubbell and his wife Rosanne bought their first cherry farm from Rosanne's parents in 1965 which they named Orchard View Farms.
Their son, and third generation farmers, Chris Hubbell and his wife Janet bought their first cherry farm in the 1980's which we currently own today. Chris and Janet had two sons who grew up working on the farms starting at the age of 10. The farms grow a variety of sweet cherries, tart cherries, a variety of apples, plums, pears and peaches. The farm also has a welding and truck repair shop which both Brandon and Chris have rebuilt many forklifts, tractors, harvesting equipment and anything with a motor. Many area farmers in the local community call if they need help with repairing equipment.
Another important part of our farms history is the cherry receiving station and cooling pad we have ran to help the local farms within a 30 mile radius by giving them a place to deliver their tart cherry crop to and transport to many MI processing facilities. Their son, and forth generation farmers, Brandon Hubbell and wife Beth purchased their farms in 2009 partnering with Chris and Janet. Their children, and fifth generation also help with the farm already at their young ages of 10, 8 and the youngest 2 years old. The boys love working with their daddy no matter if its in the repair shop, long hours in the spray truck, forklift driving, planting trees, or helping grandma at the receiving station and cooling pad.
2023 brought our newest expansion and adventure of the Hubbell Farm "Market" located at 6620 M-72 E in Williamsburg, MI 49690. Many days you will find Beth, her mother Jamie or Janet greeting our customers at Hubbell Farm Market with their lil helpers, Blake, Easton and Maggie greeting the customers and making them feel welcome.
We are continuously adding new items at our farm market and are busy getting ready for fall U-Pick apple season and fun fall events such as our apple cannon, wagon rides, pumpkin patch, corn maze, outdoor games and tours. In the market you will find many yummy and delicious
treats including our delicious home bakes pies, hand scoop ice cream, caramel apples, donuts, muffins, as well as our "Local Fresh Fruits and Vegetables" and many MI made products.
Our motto of "Farm to Family" is truly what we believe is important by providing healthy home grown products along with fun farm activities and experiences to families to enjoy for many more generations to come.
